Water Resources Management
- Federal Constitution of 1988 (Defines, among other things, the ownership of water resources and the role of the Union and the States in water management).
- Law No. 9.433/1997 (National Water Resources Policy). Establishes the National Water Resources Policy and creates the National Water Resources Management System (SINGREH)
- Decree No. 24.643/1934 (Water Code). It is one of the oldest https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9433.htmlegislações on the use of water in Brazil, establishing rules for the use of water resources, including use for energy generation and other purposes.
- Law No. 12.651/2012 (New Forest Code). Although focused on forestry issues, this law also has significant implications for the protection of water resources, especially with regard to the preservation of riparian forests and springs.
- Law No. 9.605/1998 (Environmental Crimes Law). It establishes criminal and administrative sanctions for conduct and activities harmful to the environment, including pollution of water bodies and degradation of water resources.
- Law No. 10.257/2001 (City Statute). It regulates the use of water in the urban context, establishing guidelines for the planning and sustainable management of cities, which includes the management of water resources in urban areas.
- ANA Resolution No. 1,938/2017. Regulates charging for the use of water resources in the Union's domain, establishing criteria for charging in different river basins.
- Law No. 11.445/2007 (National Basic Sanitation Policy). Although focused on sanitation, this law is crucial for water resource management, as it regulates the treatment and disposal of sewage, one of the main pollutants of water bodies.

- Law No. 12.305, of August 2, 2010 - National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). It establishes the National Solid Waste Policy, which introduced shared responsibilities for the life cycle of products, as well as guidelines for the environmentally correct disposal of waste. The law also deals with reverse logistics and waste management for packaging, tires, lubricating oils, batteries and construction waste.
- Decree No. 11.043, of April 13, 2022 - National Solid Waste Plan (Planares). Approves the National Solid Waste Plan, which aims to improve waste management in Brazil with guidelines, strategies, actions and targets for the next 20 years. Among the objectives are the closure of dumps, increased recycling and energy recovery from waste.
- Law No. 14.785, of December 27, 2023. Provides for research, experimentation, production, packaging, labeling, transport, storage, marketing, use, import, export, final destination of residues and packaging, registration, classification, control, inspection and inspection of pesticides, environmental control products, their technical products and the like; repeals Laws 7.802, of July 11, 1989, and 9.974, of June 6, 2000, and parts of the annexes to Laws 6.938, of August 31, 1981, and 9.782, of January 26, 1999.
- Conama Resolution No. 362, of June 23, 2005. It deals with the collection and final disposal of used or contaminated lubricating oil.
- Conama Resolution No. 401, of November 4, 2008. It establishes the maximum limits of lead, cadmium and mercury for batteries, as well as the criteria and standards for their environmentally appropriate management.
